Incident Reports-Parent Notification
R
Remus Way
As we complete the incident report it requires us to note who has been notified otherwise, we cannot progress. However not all incidents require us to call the parent right away. We many notify parents at the time of collection and there needs to be an option to include this. We also may not know who until we see which parent or guardian collects the child on the day.

Incident Report Not Requiring Notification

It would be good to be able to move on with an incident report without having to contact the parent. Not all incidents require phone notification immediately

Option to bypass parent section for minor incidents

The ability to bypass the notify parent section in incident reports for a minor incident like a bandaid. Parents will be notified once the incident report has been sent so why disturb them by calling them while they are at work, only to receive the notification via the app anyway? Parents need to be able to sign incident reports from their end too.

Incident reports - add “Parent notified on collection” check box

For incidents that don’t require an immediate phone call to the family, add a check box to say “notified upon collection” on the Notifications page. Currently have to keep putting N/A which is not used friendly and parents don’t always have time to sign right away so there is no way to confirm when the parent was notified (required within 24 hours as per Regulation 86).
Or send an instant notification via the app to families with the option for them to sign via their phone/app

Incident Reports - Parental Notification

My service writes incident/accident forms for minor injuries such as a graze/abrasions. Injuries such as these do not need to be notified straight away via phone call to families until pickup but on the incident forms - u have to complete the notification section (section 4) and if we don't need to notify - the only other way to write/indicate it is to press unsuccessful notification. There should be another option -like notified upon pickup etc...

Whilst writing N/A does work, having the option to notify parents immediately or on pick up would be more appropriate especially for OSHC services where children are older and often want to be the one to tell their parents especially with minor injuries.

We just write N/A in that section

Making this field a mandatory field is ridiculous. There is no need to contact a parent for every little scratch - we'd be on the phone all day otherwise. The data becomes meaningless when you are adding other people such as the responsible person in the contact field instead because there is no reason to have to call the parent for some incidents.

At our setting we put down the witness or the manger as the person contacted as a way of showing the incident has been raised with the rest of the team just to cover ourselves professionally.
