Because educators see "SLEEP CHECK" it can be easy for staff to see that the child is still asleep from across the room, and log the check, rather than actually physical checking on the child's well being by checking their breathing, skin colour, lip colour and temperature while they are asleep.
Renaming the Sleep Check to "HEALTH CHECK" will give a better understanding to educators of what they need to check before logging each check.
It has a stronger language for the expectations, and allows for fuller follow up if Centre managers need to do performance management discussions with educators who are not doing physical checks of children while they sleep.
It also gives a fuller picture to parents when they receive a "Health check" notification during the period their child is asleep.
